These photos were taken from the Holden Tower. The Lesser white-fronted Goose was in front of the hide (150 yds range) and I had a 2x and 1.4x converter stacked with film speed at 800 ASA. Suddenly the man next to me shouted "Cranes", but nobody else saw them - they were in fact right over the top of the hide at this point. They must have circled and there they were, five of them flying low towards the Severn Estuary. Immediately I dropped out the 2x converter, spun the shutter speed down 2 spots, removed the camera from the tripod and hand-holding the lens (in AF mode) managed to get these shots. It would have been better to have set the film speed to 400 ASA, but I was just pleased to get them! A question of being the right place at the right time.
